New Delhi: Kiwi fruit, known for boosting platelets and aiding in disease prevention, is rapidly growing in production across India's Himalayan states. According to National Horticulture Board (NHB) data, Arunachal Pradesh leads the country in kiwi production, contributing 44.71% of the total output. Manipur and Sikkim follow with 18.11% and 13% respectively.
Nagaland (10.83%) and Himachal Pradesh (6.98%) are also key producers.
Kiwi is valued for its high nutritional content, particularly its ability to increase platelets, making it crucial during diseases like dengue. It's rich in vitamin C, K, and antioxidants, making it an essential part of a healthy diet.
Experts believe that the climate and geography of these Himalayan states are ideal for kiwi cultivation, providing farmers with significant profits. Government and state agricultural departments are also promoting kiwi farming through various schemes, further driving growth in the sector.
